Resurgent Medvedev Secures First Championship in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.
This represents the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since March of 2023.
Success also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 various events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.
"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
His counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.
But the player has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serve.
He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.
The opponent saved 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
